Maroondah Council has released designs for the upcoming works to the intersection of Great Ryrie St and Bedford Rd in Ringwood.
The BUG has previously raised issues with the important cycling route on Bedford Rd, especially in regards to the pedestrian "refuge island" located immediately to the east side of the level crossing.
The BUG is pleased to see that the designs for this complex junction, which must cater for the needs of trains, buses, cyclists, pedestrians, and private motor vehicles, is relatively well thought-out. Whilst ideally we would have liked to see dedicated cycle lanes through the entire junction, width constraints make this difficult. However, it is pleasing to see that "sharrows" will be installed to alert drivers and encourage cyclists to ride in a safe road position, and that the cycle lanes resume as quickly as is feasible.
More details, including the designs, can be found on Council's website.
